Our Mission

Inspiring and cultivating strong Montessori advocates and leaders as champions for the human spirit.

Our Philosophy

The main goal of the Maryland Center for Montessori Studies Early Childhood certification program is to inspire, instruct, and cultivate Montessori teachers. As Montessori pedagogy focuses on the spiritual, psychological and cognitive realms of the child, our program also focuses on the preparation and transformation of the whole teacher as well as on the importance of the prepared environment. The program instills in our adult learners a deep respect for children and sensitivity to their needs and different styles of learning.

Our Program

Maryland Center for Montessori Studies helps interested individuals become highly effective Montessori advocates and leaders. Successful completion of the Early Childhood Teacher Certification Program results in an Early Childhood Teaching Certification by the American Montessori Society.

The program content includes Montessori philosophy, theories of child development, the use of Montessori didactic materials, early childhood Montessori curricula, observation techniques, effective record keeping, classroom management, healthy parent communication, and effective administration.

This two-year program is formatted to allow an individual who is currently working full-time, to attend classes. The Academic portion of the program begins with an intensive three weeks of summer classes in July and August. This is followed by monthly weekend seminars, meeting one weekend a month, Friday – Sunday, from September through May. The Academic portion of the program culminates with another week of intensive summer classes in August 2019. The Practicum, or Student Teaching, begins September 2019 and ends May 2020.
